The Roaming Reader: Where it All Started

Welcome to The Roaming Reader blog! Like many blogs (I’m imagining), this started out as a book idea. Last year I had just taken my only daughter to her first year of college and I was grieving this transition with the add-on bonus of hitting perimenopause. Hard. It was not good times, people. Not good times at all.
I needed a project, a distraction, and a purpose, and that’s how The Roaming Reader book idea was hatched. As grandiose plans usually do, this one went full steam for a while, lost a little momentum, then sputtered to a stop completely when my daughter returned for the summer. I still wanted to complete the project and I still wanted to use the writing because I’d devoted a lot of time and energy to it…but. The idea of trying to go out and get an editor/publisher—something I’ve attempted several times in the past for other projects and always found demoralizing–just wasn’t sitting quite right.
The idea of starting a blog, though? Now, I could get behind that, especially since I already had at least nine months’ worth of material I could publish while I worked on my next project. The next project, by the way, is TBA as I’ve come up with like 50 things I want to write about and can’t settle on any of them. I’m hoping this will be resolved soon-ish.
So here it is. My initial Roaming Reader project that will be explained in more detail in my next post. I hope you all enjoy my journey and I’m excited to hopefully interact with some of you in the near future.
